Anxiety and Depression Effects During Drug Provocation Test. Fecha: Jueves 18 de octubre de 2018

Anxiety and Depression Effects During Drug Provocation Test. Authors: Losappio LM, Cappai A, Arcolaci A, Badiu I, Bonadonna P, Boni E, Bussolino C, Caminati M, Galati P, Heffler E, Intravaia R, Mauro M, Massaro I, Romano A, Rumi G, Parolo A, Pizzimenti S, Nichelatti M, Pastorello EA. Abstract: BACKGROUND: Drug provocation test (DPT) represents the gold standard for the diagnosis of drug allergy. A DPT can be performed in a single-blind placebo-controlled manner. In anxiety and depressive disorders, patients need to be evaluated to understand the nature of placebo reactions. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychological profile of patients with reactions to placebo during a DPT. METHODS: We consecutively enrolled patients with suspected drug allergy undergoing a DPT preceded by the administration of the placebo. All patients underwent the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), a questionnaire aimed to identify anxiety and depression, before ...

Roles of MAS-related G protein coupled receptor-X2 (MRGPRX2) on mast cell-mediated host defense, pseudoallergic drug reactions and chronic inflammatory diseases. Authors: Hariharan Subramanian, PhD,  Kshitij Gupta, PhD, Hydar Ali, PhD ; Department of Pathology, University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Philadelphia. Abstract:  Mast cells (MCs), which are granulated tissue-resident cells of hematopoietic lineage, contribute to vascular homeostasis, innate/adaptive immunity, and wound healing. However, MCs are best known for their roles in allergic and inflammatory diseases, such as anaphylaxis, food allergy, rhinitis, itch, urticaria, atopic dermatitis, and asthma. In addition to the high-affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI), MCs express numerous G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are the largest group of membrane receptor proteins and the most common targets of drug therapy. Antimicrobial host defense peptides, neuropeptides, major basic protein, e...

Electronic address: alexander.navarini@usz.ch. Abstract:  Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a common skin disease caused by a T cell-mediated immune reaction to usually innocuous allergens. ACD can have grave medical and socioeconomic consequences. ACD and irritant contact dermatitis often occur together. A detailed history and clinical examination are crucial and guide patch testing, which is the gold standard to diagnose ACD. T-cell clones per...

Hipersensibilidad a sulfonamidas Presentación realizada por la Dra. Susana Uribe durante la jornada académica del jueves 6 de septiembre de 2018:

Jornada Académica 06.09.18

Sulfonamide Drug Allergy  Joshua M. Dorn1 & Mollie Alpern1 & Caitlin McNulty1 & Gerald W. Volcheck1 Abstract: Purpose of Review We sought to review past and current literature on sulfonamide drug allergy and distill it in a practical manner to assist the clinician, specifically focusing on cross-reactivity and desensitization. Recent Findings There do not appear to be consistent genetic markers to reliably predict features of or the presence hypersensitivity reactions. Recent evidence continues to alleviate early concerns cross-reactivity between sulfonamide antibiotics and nonantibiotics. Summary Sulfonamide drug allergy is frequently encountered by the practicing clinician. For sulfonamide antibiotics, delayed rash is the most common clinical manifestation. There is no current evidence to support avoidance of all non-antibiotic sulfonamides in those with a reported allergy to sulfonamide antibiotics, although certain scenarios require caution. Available evid...
